Task 4 5 and 6

Here the tasks were to analyse the front cover, contents page and double page spread of music magazines and note the codes and conventions.

Task 4
Front cover
Original masthead
Central Image
Anchorage text
Anchoring (supporting) images
barcode

states frequency of magazine

Date
key contents in bold writing
Central image most commonly having direct mode of address

Always has an independent colour scheme

buzzword e.g. Exclusive!
Image doesn't cover the masthead (some exceptions mostly in popular magazine e.g. Kerrang)

Task 5
Contents page:
A pictures dominates – linking to central image on front
Set out in columns.
Split into two or three columns
normally includes an editor’s letter.
Have little images to display content
Page number before the story.
Includes web address
Titles are normally in bold.
Page numbers are a different colour to the stories.
Have contact details and address.
Always have an ‘every week’ column.
Usually two pages
Line gap between each section.
Subscription details
Type size 11pt.
Credits for front picture
Pictures are different sizes and have numbers on them which anchor them to be written in contents
Regular contents have a page number
Pages are not in specific order and are normally in sections for example; Bands
One main picture in some magazines.

Task 6
Double Page spread:
Drop quotes
small font
Substantial amounts of writing
one main image
strapline
limited use of colour
short summary at the beginning
first letter is always bigger
Eye catching headline
artist's name are always big and highlighted
picture of the journalist (sometimes)
always have a by line ( who wrote it)
text is once again in columns
page number
title of article and Magazine
Sections of the article in bold and a larger font before the sentence appears in the column
