Main- Task One
I will be producing an Alternative music magazine aimed at teenagers - early adults. This is because being in this category myself i assume that it would be easier when picking the contents, as i know what is most interested in within my friends. Also i think with it the task being difficult as all content has to be our own and original, it would be more suited and beneficial using alternative as there is a wider variety of content i can include.

in todays lesson (8th October) i fineshed my preliminary front cover of the school magazine. i will now ask for it to be looked at and be given any pointers on how to improve.
Evaluation
I will be evaluating my magazine and contents page. I will be looking at how it both follows and deviates from the codes and conventions of a magazine. I will also talk about how I could have improved my magazine.
My media project both follows and deviates from the codes and conventions of a magazine as I have included a large masthead, this stands out well and follows the colour scheme of my magazine and also appeals to my target audience. On my front cover I have my positioning statement, date and issue number at the top by my title. This is what the codes and conventions say, I followed them so my target audience will see them and recognise straight away that it’s a magazine from the setting. I challenged the codes and conventions on my front cover with my central image as there is not direct mode of address. I did this as I didn’t want it to look too confident as it was meant to be a new student also I thought that I did have to include one challenge that’s goes against the codes and conventions. When using quark to create my contents page I found it easier not to include the guidelines as this made the design I wanted to achieve harder.
To make my magazine and contents page I used Photoshop and QuarkXPress. I used Photoshop on the front page and Quark on the contents page. I found Photoshop easier than Quark as Quark was a new programme and we had been using Photoshop longer. I found it quite difficult getting the hang of quark.
Compared to my sketches my final project was completely different. My titles changes along with a number of other things like the contents etc.
Overall I am happy with my project. If I would improve I could try to include a little more on my front cover. I chose not to clutter my front cover but resulted in a lot of unfilled space.

the past two media lessons that i have had i have been manipulating images that i will be using on my preliminary task of creating a school magazine
Planning my preliminary task
I choose the title for my magazine; Cliff’s Freshest, as I have promoted that we always bring the freshest stories. Also I have shortened the name of the school that I made up.
I also want to make sure any images that I take will connote school and education.
Features:
My features will include things such as interviews form teachers or little notes. Reminders like “dates for your diary” I will use a story about our schools radio in my features as I can utilise the equipment that we have in school for images.
Regulars:
Heads message, editors letter, coming up, competitions, school sports page, what’s going on in each department page.
For my central image I want to include one of our younger students looking happy so I can use it for the story of welcoming our new students to the school.
Other images used will also be appealing and I will try to come up with headlines for the pictures I can take.
I have planned my school name; Cliffside, so I will have to make a logo on Photoshop, and to include the sub headline of our schools radio I will also have to make a logo for that.
I will make sure to include an address and phone number, website address, email and fax.
These are the rough sketches i have made in the planning stages of my preliminary task!
